EU Targets Pornhub, XVideos Under New Content Rules

STOCKHOLM, Dec 20 (Reuters) - The European Union added three adult content companies - Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos - to its list of firms subject to stringent regulations under new online content rules, the bloc's industry chief Thierry Breton said on Wednesday.

While the big tech companies had user numbers exceeding the 45-million threshold needed to be designated as very large online platforms (VLOP), Canada-based Pornhub said it had 33 million average monthly users as of July 31, falling below the required level.

Such designated companies will have to do more to tackle disinformation, give more protection and choice to users and ensure stronger protection for children or risk fines of as much as 6% of their global turnover.

The new EU rules known as the Digital Services Act (DSA) require companies to conduct risk management, undergo external and independent auditing, and share data with authorities and researchers. (Reporting by Supantha Mukherjee in Stockholm; Editing by Andrew Heavens)

STOCKHOLM, Dec 20 (Reuters) - The European Union on Wednesday added three adult content companies - Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos - to its list of firms subject to stringent regulations under new online content rules.

"Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos meet the user thresholds to fall under stricter #DSA obligations," the bloc's industry chief Thierry Breton said. "Creating a safer online environment for our children is an enforcement priority under the DSA."

Judge Ezra also agreed with claims that the law, set to come into force on Friday, would have implications for users privacy as the proposed age verification tool uses a traceable government-issued identification.

She is suing director Danny Martin along with Aylo and others for $80million, claiming she was subjected to a smear campaign afterwards which lead to her losing out on big brand deals with the likes of sex toy maker Fleshlight. 

'Out of fear and under duress, the plaintiff participated in additional videos,' the lawsuit states. She repeatedly told them to stop filming, and Pratt burst into a fit of rage, breaking a lamp in the hotel room during the ordeal. 

'Instead of looking at facts, however, the porn conglomerate launched a coverup; executives made Hutchison a scapegoat for the life-threatening incident on one of their sets,' Hutchison's law firm Kerr Simpson said.
